Another Brazilian nurse reportedly confused a patient’s IV with her feeding tube, causing the death of the patient.

Brazilian nursing student Rejane Moreira Telles, 23, had only been working at a São João de Meriti clinic in the Baixada Fluminense region of
Rio de Janeiro for three days when she allegedly injected coffee into the blood drip of 80-year-old Palmerina Pires Ribeiro.

Just hours after the mistake, Ribeiro died. Doctors say the liquid would have gone directly to Ribeiro’s heart and lungs, and it would have been as if she was suffocating.

Telles has been charged with involuntary manslaughter along with two nurses and another student. Telles told TV Globo she did not receive training in the procedure she was performing and said, “Anyone can get confuse.”

This is not the first story of its kind. Earlier this month, 88-year-old Ilda Vitor Maciel had a seizure and died after a nursing technician injected soup into the woman’s vein IV instead of her feeding tube.
