JUST IN:  Strong Earthquake Hits Costa Rica

A 6.6 magnitude earthquake has struck the northeastern Pacific region of Costa Rica at 6:45 p.m. the U.S. Geological Survey is reporting.

The epicenter of this strong earthquake is 6 miles northeast of Hojancha in the Guanacaste province.  This quake is also some 6 miles away from Nicoya where on September 5th an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale occurred.  Just this weekend on Sunday, October 21, a 4.4 earthquake struck 4 miles from Nicoya.

Local media in Costa Rica is reporting aftershocks being felt throughout the country including strong shaking in the capital city of San Jose. 

No reports thus far of fatalities or major damages.
