A Brazilian beauty pageant contestant has reportedly confessed to hiring her boyfriend to kill a competitor who won the southeast Brazil contest and a role in a music video.
After losing to Alini Oliveira, Adayane Matias was furious. Matias was so upset about losing that she allegedly asked the her boyfriend, Deivid Correa, to kill her rival to prove he loved her.
Matias, 20, is said to have also plotted with dance partner Juliermeson Baston, to have the competition winner killed.
On September 21, just hours before the music video was to begin shooting, investigators say Correa shot 21-year-old Oliveira in a hotel garden in Cariacica, Brazil.
Matias believed that if Oliveira was out of the picture, she would take her place because she was the second place finisher.
According to police, Matias and Baston planned the murder. Once the murder was carried, Baston reportedly sent a text to Marias saying, “Now you can have some ham with your breakfast.” ‘Ham’ is Brazilian slang for ‘dead body.’
Police chief Adroaldo Lopes told Gazeta TV, ‘They thought that Alini had robbed them of something that was rightfully theirs. Adayane became depressed and convinced her boyfriend to kill Alini to prove that he loved her.’
After the murder, Matias and Baston confessed their plan to police, saying it was a plan forged out of desperation to “make it big” as dancers.
Matias, Correa, and Baston have each been charged with first-degree murder.
