According to information from Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector, both migrant deaths along Arizona’s border with Mexico and apprehensions are down from last year.
Compared to the same 10-month period last year, there has been a 38 percent drop in the number of deaths in Arizona’s Tucson Sector and a 44 percent drop in apprehensions.
Officials are hesitant to draw conclusions between the two, and say “the Sonoran Desert remains a very dangerous place to cross illegally.”
The sector made 108,900 apprehensions through July 31, compared to 194,065 during the same period last year.
