The head of Google’s Brazilian operations, Fabio Jose Silva Coelho, was arrested here Wednesday for failing to remove from the Internet several videos deemed slanderous by a Brazilian electoral court.
The Regional Electoral Court in the western state of Mato Grosso do Sul ordered the arrest, the Federal Police said in a communique.
The crime, the announcement said, carries a punishment of a year in jail, but since this is “a crime of minor offensive potential,” Coelho will be released after signing a pledge to present himself for court proceedings.
