Mexican authorities have arrested three men in the first ever Tweet terrorism case over the weekend. The three men were arrested in the state of Veracruz for tweeting about attacks that the vicious drug cartel Zetas would be carrying out.
The first of several tweets came on Thursday and during the school day. Since several of the tweets warned of attacks on schools, such as “For each Zeta killed a child will die,” parents rushed to take their kids out of school, and many have not allowed them to return.
Mexican authorities are contemplating whether to charge the three as terrorists, which brings severe penalties. The men claim they were high on drugs when they made the tweets.
