Two newlyweds are furious and hurt after one of their wedding guests tried to steal their wedding gifts.
Larry, 53, and Joanna Williamson, 51, were enjoying one of the greatest days of their lives Saturday night, when they discovered 18-year-old Omar Santiago, their niece’s date, was attempting to steal a box of envelopes containing cards and monetary wedding gifts.
A maître d’ at the New York country club where the reception was being held alerted the bride that she saw a young man carrying a box full of envelopes into the coat room.
Joanna Williamson quickly grabbed a group of people to chase down Santiago. The teen attempted to leave the club with the envelopes after he stuffed them into his pants in a bathroom.
The bride, groom, and one of their guests managed to back Santiago into the bathroom, but he somehow got past them and ran out into a nearby wooded area.
The couple and a number of their guests gave chase and were able to pin Santiago down while they waited for police.
Santiago was found with more than a dozen envelopes in his pants. He has been charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree.
The envelopes were returned to the couple, who have since left for their honeymoon in Florida to, where else, Disney World.
