Osmar Alejo and Santiago Garcia have been charged with first degree murder for Tuesday’s beating and strangulation of 27-year-old Christopher Pinkins.

Pinkins’ was discovered on the 3000 block of South Pulaski Rd. at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after Chicago police arrived in response to a call that someone in the area was carrying a knife.

Alejo and Garcia were ordered held on $900,000 bail.

Pinkins was walking down an alley between Harding Ave. and Pulaski Rd. when Alejo saw his and accused him of being the man that had robbed Garcia’s garage.

Alejo called out Garcia, who then got in his truck and followed Pinkins while Alejo followed him on foot. Shortly after, Alejo got in the truck as well, and witnesses say both men got out and began hitting Pinkins with a crowbar. Assistant State’s Atty. William Hall said the men were seen holding the crowbar against the victim’s neck.

Police were called, and upon arrival saw the men near the truck, Garcia putting the crowbar in the vehicle. Alejo was arrested and videotaped his confession.

Pinkins was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
