The Nobel Committee for Peace, which has nominated Ecuador’s Vice President, Lenin Moreno, to receive this high honor, has received close to two million signatures in support of his nomination.  President of the committee, Héctor Cueva, said that the campaign has traveled almost the entire country and began this past February. 

According to Cueva, at the end of this month, the committee will send the signatures to the selection committee in Oslo, Norway. 

The nomination of Moreno has also received world wide support.  Moreno, wheelchair bound himself, is one of a the few world leaders that is disabled and the only high-level disable government official in Latin America.  Moreno became disabled in 1998 when he was robbed and shot in the back in the streets of Quito.

He continues to aid those with disabilities through multiple projects including the Manuela Espejo Project which has helped thousands of handicapped people throughout South and Central America.
