A young boy was in a Missouri hospital last week after being shot by a man who was angry he and his friends were playing with fireworks.
William Prada, 56, has been charged with multiple counts of first degree armed criminal action for shooting at three boys, hitting one in the thigh.
An 11-year-old boy and two 10-year-old friends reportedly had an encounter with Prada Thursday night in an alley regarding the boys’ use of fireworks. After the argument, the boys left on their bikes and continued shooting off fireworks.
Angered by this, Prada began shooting at the boys, hitting the 11-year-old in the thigh. The boy’s injuries were not life threatening and his friends were not injured.
Police say Prada admitted to firing shots at the boys, saying he was angry they were setting off fireworks near his house.
He was arrested and his bond set at $75,000.
Assistant Circuit Attorney Mary Pat Benninger told reporters, “Mr. Prada is facing counts of assault in the first degree 3 counts of armed criminal action for shooting at 3 children, one 11- and two 10-years-olds, striking and wounding one of the children. I’ve been in this office for nine years and I have never seen a case like this.”
