Yesterday morning, U.S. Border Patrol fired shots when they were hit by rocks and a gun was pointed at them coming from the direction of the Mexican border on the Rio Grande.

The incident, that occurred near Brownsville in Texas, according to the the El Paso Times, resulted in several people being taken into custody and the Mexican government being notified of shots fired into Mexico by U.S. officials.

Border patrol agents are claiming they were not able to take cover when rocks were thrown, while another agent claims to have seen someone on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande with a gun pointed at him.  It is not known why Border Patrol was in the area or if anyone was injured on the Mexican side of the border from the gunshots.
