It’s only a first step in figuring out how to survive a gun shot but a project in the Netherlands has created almost bulletproof human skin. A swatch of bullet proof skin was created from human skin cells and spider milk and embedded between the outer layer of skin and the dermis.
The skin could stop a .22 calibre bullet fired at a reduced speed but could not stop one fired at a normal speed. Interestingly the project was a bioart project of artist Jailia Essaidi and the Forensic Geneomics Consortium not a scientific endeavor.
Essaidi wanted to “explore the social, political, ethical and cultural” issues surrounding safety in society. Is this the prayer gun-violent prone nations like the U.S. and Mexico need?
