Last Friday, President Obama announced a new policy of deferred action for eligible DREAMers (undocumented youth), which includes the ability to apply for work authorization.  However, these DREAMers will still be denied equal access to higher education in New York because they are not able to access the state-funded Tuition Assistance Program.  The New York DREAM Act (A6829D/S4179D) would allow undocumented youth to access state financial assistance, and the DREAM Fund (A8689B/S6883) would provide private support for undocumented youth to attend higher education.
