Earlier this year, Alejandrina Cabrera made national headlines when she was denied a run for San Luis, Arizona’s city council, because some claimed her English skills were too poor.
However, Cabrera is running again, only this time her sights are set on a much bigger seat.
Friday, Utopian Party presidential candidate Avery Ayers announced Cabrera would be his running mate.
That’s quite a leap from city council to vice president of the United States.
Avery defended his decision saying Cabrera was treated unfairly when she tried to run for city council and says he has no problem understanding her.
Unlike the city council’s requirement, there is no such literacy requirement for vice president.
Ayers founded the Utopian Party in 2009.
