You have probably heard about Mexico’s national soccer teams incredible journey to being one of FIFA’s top 10 teams but have you heard all the hate chatter along the way.
The CONCACAF Gold Cup Championship in Pasadena, California, last month, brought out 93,000 fans to watch the US National team play against Mexico’s team. Once the game concluded with a 4-2 win the Hispanic hate buzz got audible. Complaints ranged from ‘ungrateful Hispanics are cheering Mexico instead of the US team’ to ‘only illegal’s were in the audience that’s why they won.’
There were also complaints that the game was broadcast all in Spanish. The US goalkeeper who should of hidden in shame with his game performance was more upset that officials conducted the title ceremony in Spanish.
NO shit Sherlock, Univision brought the broadcasting rights and they only broadcast in Spanish. If China TV would of won the rights to broadcast you would have been hearing Mandarin.
Then there was the Los Angeles Times analyzing the game, the Mexico team and its fans which only served to fan the flames of hate, which wasn’t the writers intent at all. He noted:
Most of these hostile visitors didn’t live in another country. Most, in fact, were not visitors at all, many of them being U.S. residents whose lives are here but whose sporting souls remain elsewhere.
“Obviously … the support that Mexico has on the night like tonight makes it a home game for them,” said U.S. Coach Bob Bradley, choosing his words carefully. “It’s part of something we have to deal with on the night.”
It’s a game folks that all not a time to analyze U.S.-Mexico relations or to analyze what’ in a Hispanic-Americans heart. Looking at the comments coming from this article and others you would of thought someone was suggesting California was still part of Mexico. Or that all Hispanics are undocumented and ungrateful for being in this country or that all Hispanics were born in Mexico.
The fact that the Mexican team has been languishing for years and faced many trials along its way to victory didn’t seem to quell the anger. Bottom line everyone needs a vehicle for their hate and this time it was El Tri turn.
