Mexico’s new consul general in Chicago said Monday that U.S. immigration reform is possible as a result of the new vision imposed by globalization, but he warned that, as in any negotiation, “nobody’s going to win everything.”

“I think that it will be a very important step for undocumented immigrants in all countries, and if not exactly everything that the law requires is achieved, the rest will be the issue of a new struggle,” Carlos Martin Jimenez Macias said in an interview.

Head of Immigration - ICE - Resigns

The director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, John Morton, said Monday that he will leave his post next month to work in the private sector after four years at the head of the agency.

“I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished together during that time and look with awe on the incredible progress ICE has made as an agency,” he said in a letter directed to ICE employees.

On Father’s Day, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) reminded Americans that the immigration bill making its way through Congress is paramount to millions of mixed-status families.

“I want to say it’s Father’s Day. Loyola University of Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine is making history today by becoming the first big city medical school to admit undocumented students. The school announced they will be waiving the legal residency requirement that deters undocumented, qualified applicants from seeking admission.

At the present time, any student that is not a US citizen or permanent resident is usually considered a foreign/international applicant for medical school admissions. There are a select number of schools that accept applications from international applicants.
