        <p>Today the President of El Salvador, Carlos Mauricio Cartagena was granted an audience with Pope Francis I at the Vatican were both spoke of assassinated Archbishop Oscar Romero.</p>

<p>The two leaders spoke of the country’s struggles trying to eradicate poverty and organized crime.&nbsp; Cartagena was paying a courtesy visit to the first pontiff from Latin America but also to encourage the beatification of assassinated Archbishop Oscar Romero.</p>

        <p>New Mexico authorities in Albuquerque are investigating a multiple stabbing incident at the St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic church.</p>

<p>The incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. local time right after communion was given and when a man yelled “Fake Preacher!”&nbsp; The man proceeded to stab the church choir members.&nbsp; It is believed the stabbings occurred during the Church’s Spanish mass.&nbsp; </p>

<p>Early reports indicate four people were stabbed and two were critically injured.&nbsp; </p>

        <p> Guatemala&#8217;s Catholic Church marked Friday&#8217;s 15th anniversary of the brutal murder of Bishop Juan Jose Gerardi by remembering the slain cleric as a peace activist and defender of human rights.</p>

<p>Gerardi was a &#8220;martyr for peace&#8221; who devoted himself to Guatemala&#8217;s downtrodden peasants and indigenous people, Archbishop Oscar Julio Vian said in a service at Guatemala City&#8217;s Metropolitan Cathedral.</p>

<p>&#8220;He struggled to build a fairer and more worthy society (and) sought peace through truth and justice,&#8221; Guatemala&#8217;s Catholic primate said.

        <p>Pope Francis had a private audience Monday with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, with the two men speaking alone for 24 minutes.</p>

<p>Francis received Rajoy in the Private Library, the two exchanged greetings and then sat face to face.</p>

<p>The Spanish leader told the pope he attended the 2006 World Meeting of the Families in Valencia with his then 1-year-old son.</p>

<p>The doors of the library closed and the two men continued their meeting in private.</p>

<p>Rajoy&#8217;s wife, Elvira Fernandez, and the rest of his delegation entered the library once the audience was over.</p>
