Mexican pop singer Luz Rios gave birth to her first child Benjamin in Upland, California on October 23, representatives of the artist announced Monday.
Benjamin Raymond Carpenter is "the one who lit up my life and my heart," said the singer in a statement.
The first child of Luz Rios and husband Richard Carpenter, the executive producer of LCR Registros Inc. music label, which he founded alongside his wife, was born in San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland.
Mother and child are in "excellent health" and Benjamin weighed 6 lb. 6oz., Rios’ representatives said.
The couple said they wanted to share their happiness with all of Rios’ fans by announcing the news directly to them.
Representatives of Luz said that she will soon return to work "since music is a fundamental part of her life," adding that Carpenter has always been by her side.
The singer received two Latin Grammy nominations in 2009 for her debut album "Aire" in the best new artist and best female pop vocal categories.
In the same year, the album’s same-named single, a duet that Rios sang with fellow Mexican countryman Joan Sebastian, also received the Billboard Latino Music nomination for Hot Latin Song of the Year.
