New Jenni Rivera Series Described as ‘Soft Porn’ Center of Lawsuit Between Family and Univision

Jenni Rivera

TMZ, the popular entertainment site recently described the new weekly Jenni Rivera TV series as ‘soft porn’ and if that was not bad enough, Univision is being sued for enriching itself from the secrets of the late and great Rivera.

Rivera died on December 9, 2012 in an air plane crash in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She left behind 5 children and a career that spanned 20-years, selling more than 20 million records. Rivera had many accolades including being the first female regional Mexican singer to sell out the Staples Center in Los Angeles, her home town.

Univision’s Su Nombre Era Dolores, La Jenn Que Yo Conoci (“Her Name Was Dolores, the Jenn That I Knew”) debuted on January 15, 2017 on the Spanish language network after having survived a legal battle around the content. The weekly TV series is based on the soon-to-be published tell-all by Rivera’s former manager Pete Salgado who apparently signed a non-disclosure agreement.

Jenni Rivera Enterprises, compromised of the singer’s children and other family members, sued Salgado in Los Angeles Superior Court to block the show from ever coming to light. In December of last year, the family failed to stop the show completely but were able to put some limitations on what could be shown in the weekly series.

Now Rivera’s estate is coming after Univision to the tune of $10 million for enticing Salgado with riches by airing the show, a show they claim contains intimate personal and financial details about Rivera, in violation of the confidentiality agreement Salgado signed.

Rivera’s five children have their own TV series, a reality series that “shows the life of Jenni Rivera’s family after her death; a sequel of her first reality show I Love Jenni.”
