Today in 1981 Maria Full of Grace actress Catalina Sandino Moreno was born in Bogota, Colombia. The Colombian beauty entered the acting world with the powerful performance of Maria Alvarez in the 2004 drama.
Moreno was a student at the University of Bogota studying advertising when she auditioned to play Maria, the pregnant drug mule. The role garnered her world-wide praise including a Best Actress Oscar nomination – becoming the first Colombian to be nominated for an Academy Award.
Moreno has gone on to act in other films including Che, Fast Food Nation, A Most Violent Year and Twilght Saga: Eclipse. The ambitious Colombian is also head of her own production company, El Delirio Productions, and is getting ready to present its first feature film Gratitude.
The actress, that now speaks English fluently, has also acted in several television series including American Gothic.
