Sunday night there was another confrontation in Iguala, Guerrero, where at least nine criminals were killed, but there is confusion among those responsible. Both the Ministry of Defence and Police officers of the Ministry of Public Safety and Civil Protection, said that they were responsible for the death of the gunmen.

One statement reported that elements of 27 Infantry Battalion based in Iguala managed to shoot down five gunmen in a shootout that lasted more than 40 minutes.

Meanwhile in another report, SSPPC Municipal Police say they clashed with the armed group near the fighting arena. Reporting nine attackers were killed and a soldier was injured.

Although the reports indicate that the elements the Municipal Police were there first to confront the offenders, after several minutes of the Mexican Army arrived to take control of the situation.


Authorities seized several firearms, magazines, cartridges, vehicles, radio equipment,etc. The bodies were taken to the morgue, where hours later they began to identify them. Deceased are Erick Ayala Aponte, 24, Guillermo Andres Arellano, alias the cheek, 26, Joshua Jaime Ramírez García, 32 years, Edgar Diaz Alcocer, aka Guero, 30, and Jesus Castro Casarrubias, 36 , who for some time was director of the Preventive Police Municipal de Iguala, Daniel Peñaloza Jimenez, 23, Eduardo Castro Casarrubias, 27, and Cesar Ivan Flores Salgado, 26.
