Exclusive HS News ContributorBlog del Narco: Rodolfo Torre Cantu Met With El Lazca in 2004
In the investigation against former Governors of Tamaulipas, a protected witness told the Attorney General that Rodolfo Torre Cantu, the gubernatorial candidate assassinated in 2010, was with Eugene Hernandez and Tomas Yarrington who met in 2004 with the leader of Los Zetas , Heriberto Lazcano “El Lazca”.
A SEIDO collaborator using the code name “Pitufo” says that year the controls of the Gulf Cartel and the Zetas, then integrated into a single group, held two meetings with politicians Tamaulipas to deliver $25 million for protection.
According to the witness, Torre Cantú was at the second meeting. Six years later he was killed in Ciudad Victoria, in a crime that has yet to have been clarified.
“The Lazca” was shot on 7 October by a group of marines in a random act, during a clash in Progreso, Coahuila.
In November 2004, Rodolfo Torre Cantu, brother of the current Governor Egidio Torre, was elected local MP, but never took the Congress of Tamaulipas, because he was appointed to Secretary of Health of the State Government.
“Pitufo” is one of the cooperating most controversial SEIDO witnesses, as their statements were used in court cases against senior politicians, where at the end the accused have been acquitted.
