Corona Gets Funky

Corona’s owner Constellation Brands has decided to get funky and acquired one of the country’s fastest growing craft brands – Funky Buddha Brewery.

Corona and Modelo Negra’s owner is the third largest brewery in the States and is getting in on the craft brewery bandwagon like many others. The purchase will now give Funky Buddha a national distribution network.

Corona fans, meanwhile, can more readily enjoy a beer known to mimic culinary delights like maple bacon, blueberry cobbler pie and of course Cuban’s favorite pastelitos de
guayaba.

No announcement on the terms of the deal or if Funky Buddha is heading down south to the land of Corona. Corona is the top selling Mexican beer in the world and is exported to over 150 countries. Corona has been around since 1922 and came to the U.S. in 1979.

“We chose to partner with Constellation because we saw an alignment in vision and felt they gave us the greatest opportunity for growth and development,” Funky Buddha president and head brewer Ryan Sentz said in a news release.

The Funky Buddha brand was born in 2010 at the Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery followed in 2013 by the Funky Buddha Brewery located in South Florida. The enterprise was the brain child of the Sentz brothers who are expected to remain involved in the day-to-day operations.
