U.S. Hispanic Country-of-Origin Counts - 63% Mexican Origin

The 2010 Decennial Census counted 50.5 million Hispanics. Among them, 31.8 million, or 63%, are of Mexican origin. They are followed by Puerto Rican-origin Hispanics, who number 4.6 million, or 9.2%, of all U.S. Hispanics. The 2010 Congressional Reapportionment and Latinos

With these reapportionment changes, Latinos likely will play a larger role in national politics in the coming decade. Two states that gained seats, Florida and Nevada, have been key swing battlegrounds in recent presidential elections (having voted for the Republican nominee in 2004 and the Democrat in 2008).
