Carlos Augusto Alves Santana was born July 20, 1947 in Autl├ín de Navarro, Jalisco, Mexico. Young Carlos learned to play the violin at age five and the guitar at age eight from his father who was a Mariachi Violinist. His family eventually made their way to San Francisco where he graduated high school.
